Teaching driver’s ed: In 1992 I became certified to be a DE instructor. Initially,DE was taught as a summertime program offered by public schools. Once that law changed, I began working with MDS I am very impressed by the dedication of every person involved with MDS and am proud to be member of a truly caring organization.
In education: I spent my teaching career, from 1973-2004,teaching Civics and U.S.History at Holland High School.
Family: I have been blessed with a wonderful daughter/son in-law,three grandchildren(ages 6-16) who live in Saugatuck.
Hobbies: Being retired,I have had wonderful opportunities to travel, read, jog, cycle and recently added pickleball.
Interesting facts: I became a snowbird upon my retirement in 2004 and spend my winters in Florida but always look forward to returning to Michigan for summertime.
Enjoy about driver’s ed? What I have always enjoyed most about being an instructor is the opportunity to stay connected with young people as well as teaching them a lifetime skill. Driving is really a mental challenge. Obviously teens need the physical component as well but the understanding of what is happening on the road and their role in being a safe driver is most critical in our opinion at MDS.
